Legal Aid Post Will Increase in 2012

The number of the Religious Courts providing legal aid post (Posbakum) will increase in 2012. There will be 20 new Religious Courts. Therefore, the number will be 66.

The Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana officially stated about that in Depok, Wednesday night (27/12/2012).

According to him, the Directorate General of the Religious Courts (Badilag) has planned to add 23 new Religious Courts. But, unfortunately, the budget cannot cover all.

“We suspend 3 new Religious Courts for the next year,” he said.

The 20 new Religious Courts which will provide legal aid post in 2012 are MSy of Takengon (Aceh), RC of Binjai, RC of Lubuk Pakam (North Sumatera), RC of Bukit Tinggi (West Sumatera), RC of  Tanjung Pinang (Riau), RC of Bangko (Jambi), RC of Baturaja (South Sumatera), RC of Metro (Lampung), RC of Sumber dan RC of Tasikmalaya (West Java), RC of Serang (Banten), RC of Tuban, RC of Lamongan, RC of Sidoarjo (East Java), RC of Sampit (Central Kalimantan), RC of Balikpapan (East Kalimantan), RC of Mamuju (West Sulawesi), RC of Selong (West Nusa Tenggara), RC of Ruteng (East Nusa Tenggara), dan RC of Manokwari (West Papua).

Legal Aid Post as one important program of justice for all will play an important role to enhance the reputation and the credibility of the Supreme Court of Indonesia in international forum.

“Program of justice for all is an urgent indicator that our institution maintain and protect the rights of poor and marginalized people,” he said.

Wahyu Widiana stated that international people are now focusing on this matter including gender and disability.

He also explained on the new Law no. 16 of 2011. Actually, the Law will take into in 2012 but, because the Government Regulation has not existed yet, the Law will be applied in 2013.

This new Law stipulates that legal aid will conducted by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Based on trilateral meeting consisting of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the State Planning Agency held in December 1, 2011, it was agreed that the Supreme Court can conduct the legal aid post in 2011.
