DG of Badilag Appreciates All Apparatus

At the end of 2011, the Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana delivered his great appreciation to all apparatus of the Religious Courts.

“I appreciate and thank to my colleagues working in all Religious Courts for their very good job in 2011. There are so many proud achievements made,” he said.

He also hoped that all apparatus could maintain their performance of work in 2012 principally in delivering excellent services to clients.

Some important achievement made in 2011 include the improvement of human resources, the compilation of Sharia Economic Law, the compilation of the procedural law for Shari Economic, the implementation of SIADPA (case management system), the development of websiste and of SIMPEG, programs of Justice for the Poor, Information Desk. All programs run very well and produce some significant results.

Wahyu Widiana explained that in 2011 Badilag has successfully developed new method of workshop and of case study. The method was aimed to improve capacity of judges and other apparatus of the Religious Courts particularly in mastering substantive law, procedural law and system of case administration and controlling.

International Cooperation

The Religious Courts have been also involved in some cooperation with other countries in improving human resources  and in conducting reforms.

A short course on Sharia Economic Law which was cooperation with Arabic countries had played an important role in enhancing judges’ understanding the law. In 2012, there will be a training involving approximately 40 judges. It is cooperation between the Directorate General of the Religious Courts and Riyadh Government.

The Religious Courts become very famous now. They have attracted the international interest and attention. The discussion on program of justice for the poor in Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of IACA (International Association for Court Administration) is probably a good example. In the conference, Wahyu Widiana got a good chance to present a paper titled Justice for the Poor: Badilag Experiences.

In other occasion, Badilag’s experiences on judicial reforms were also discussed in a dialogue of Australian-Pakistan Legal and Judicial Thingkers, Sydney, last month. Wahyu Widiana also explained the recent rapid progresses made by the Religious Courts to International Policy Forum of Australia, the Chief Justice of the Australian High Court, and Australian National University.
