Reward and Punishment Should Be Balanced

Bandung | Badilag.net

Shari’a Faculty of Islamic State University of Gunung Jati Bandung held a national seminar. The theme of this seminar was “Revitalizing the Role and the Function of the Judicial Commission in Supervision of Law Enforcement in Indonesia”, Bandung, Saturday (26/5).

This seminar successfully invited some speakers including Prof. Dr. Eman Suparman, SH, MH (chief of Judicial Commission), Drs.H.Wahyu Widiana, MA (Director General of Badilag), Dr. Suparman Marzuki, SH, M.Si (member of Judicial Commission), Didi Irawadi, S.H, M.H (member of House of Representative), dan Prof. Dr.H. Rahmat Syafe’i, Lc., MA (scholar).

It was attended by a number of academicians, legal practitioners, judges and others.

In his presentation, Wahyu Widiana said that balance in giving punishment and reward is a must. The Judicial Commission should pay a great attention to this.

He also explained that the Judicial Commission should not only seek the fault and mistake of judges.

“I think that the Judicial Commission has to deliver positive statements toward judges and courts. The Judicial Commission must also appreciate some progress made by courts and judges,” he said.

The Directorate General of the Religious Courts is taking some efforts in maintaining the independence of judges and courts. One of them is to create “the clean area” in the courts.

This clean area will prevent illegal communication between judges and justice seekers.

Every court has provided “information desk” which serves justice seekers. The officers of information desk will provide any information needed by the justice seekers.

“The justice seekers should not meet judges or registrars when they want to get information related to their case progress,” Wahyu Widiana said.

Wahyu Widiana also mentioned that all judges as well as other court’s apparatus were prohibited to inform their phone number and address to justice seekers.
